Verkhovna Rada to vote on appointment of new deputy speaker on Oct 19 - Stefanchuk

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will vote on the appointment of a new first deputy speaker at its plenary meeting on Tuesday, October 19.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said this at a briefing on October 13, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"You know we halted work on Friday. On Tuesday, we will immediately continue the consideration of this issue,” he said.

He suggested that consideration of the issue would take 1-1.5 hours.

As Ukrinform reported, on October 8, Ukrainian MPs appointed former First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk as Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. During the consideration of appointment of the first deputy speaker, Stefanchuk closed the plenary session due to the insufficient number of MPs to make decisions.

Thus, MPs from the Servant of the People parliamentary faction nominated Chairperson of the Servant of the People party, First Deputy Chairperson of the parliamentary faction Oleksandr Korniyenko for the post of first vice speaker. The European Solidarity faction nominated Sofia Fedyna.
