Ukraine asks Turkey to promptly investigate death of tourist in Antalya

The Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey has asked the Turkish Foreign Ministry to facilitate a speedy and impartial investigation into the death of a Ukrainian tourist in Antalya, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko has told Ukrinform.

"The Ukrainian Embassy asked the Turkish Foreign Ministry for a speedy and impartial investigation. Our consul in Antalya also requested meetings with the attorney general of the city of Fethiye and the management of a forensic medicine department. The possibility of supporting the stay of Ukrainians during the investigation is also being studied," Nikolenko said.

He said that the Ukrainian embassy and consulate in Antalya were providing consular assistance to Ukrainians. The diplomats agreed with a local lawyer on free legal aid for Ukrainian tourists in the context of the trial.

A group of Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Antalya in mid-October and went on a hike along the Lycian Way trail is forced to stay in Turkey due to the investigation into the suicide of one of the group members.

Ukraine's Consul in Antalya, Emir Rustamov, referring to Turkish law enforcement agencies, said the ban on leaving Turkey for a group of Ukrainian tourists would be lifted after the investigation and examinations in the case of the death of a Ukrainian tourist.
