European Commission ready to consult with Ukraine on Nord Stream 2 certification - energy ministry
The European Commission is ready to consult with Ukraine in the process of preparing an opinion on the draft decision of the German Federal Network Agency, Bundesnetzagentur, on the Nord Stream 2 certification.
The report came following a Thursday meeting of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko and the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of the energy ministry.
It is noted that in this way Ukraine will become an active participant in the Nord Stream 2 certification process – not only in the political sense but also in a legal one. During the meeting, the parties also discussed security of gas shipments to Europe and possible options to reduce the impact of the energy crisis on the European region.
In addition, the Ukrainian side was invited to participate in the risk assessment group created in accordance with the Regulation on supply security, which consists exclusively of EU member states. The purpose of the meeting will be to hold consultations on energy security in Ukraine, development of joint decisions, and mutual assistance in crisis situations.
"We very much appreciate the support for Ukraine on the part of our European partners. "Ukraine's involvement in the preparation of the Commission’s conclusion on the certification of Nord Stream 2 and the European ‘risk group’ confirms that our country is an equal partner of Europe in the energy sector," said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
As Ukrinform reported, the German regulator, Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), has suspended the certification process for Nord Stream 2 AG, and also granted the request of Gas TSO of Ukraine LLC to participate in the procedure.
