Venediktova, Kvien discuss election of SAP head
Ukraine's Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova and Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Kristina Kvien have discussed the election of a new head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the Prosecutor General's Office has reported.
During their meeting, Venediktova and Kvien discussed support for reforms and the development of the fight against corruption, the report said.
"The election of the SAP head is extremely important in this context. The anti-corruption system needs a leader who will bring it to a new level," Venediktova said.
She said she hopes that an independent commission will announce the results of the competition in the near future.
SAP chief Nazar Kholodnytsky tendered his resignation on August 21, 2020.
The competition for the election of a new SAP head started on January 25.
On November 10, Venediktova said in Brussels that the appointment of a new head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office was a difficult process, but it could end "in the coming days" and the SAP will probably get its new head this year.
