Stefanchuk: Security situation in the region requires coordinated actions of Ukraine and Lithuania parliaments

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed further cooperation between the parliaments of Ukraine and Lithuania with Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

"I made certain of the full mutual support of our parliaments and peoples. We are moving together in one direction. During the conversation, several important issues for Ukraine were considered," Ruslan Stefanchuk said, the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informs.

He expressed hope that the Lithuanian Parliament would be one of the first to join the implementation of the parliamentary dimension of the Crimea Platform.

"In addition, I ask you to share your experience of inter-parliamentary dialogue. It would be valuable for Ukraine to revive the dialogue with other countries and achieve stable positive dynamics," Stefanchuk said during the meeting.

During the conversation, the Verkhovna Rada Speaker focused on key aspects of cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania in security and defense policy.

"The security situation in the region requires increased attention and coordinated actions of the parliaments of Ukraine and Lithuania to counter the intentions of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation to destabilize the situation. We especially count on the support of the Lithuanian side in this issue," he said.

Finally, Stefanchuk informed that Ukraine has met more than 60% of the Copenhagen criteria, including 25% - over the past year.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk pays a visit to the Republic of Poland on December 5-6 to take part in the 11th Session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and the Seimas and the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
