White House reaffirms U.S. readiness to strengthen NATO's eastern flank
White House press secretary Jen Psaki has reaffirmed Washington's readiness to increase its military presence in NATO countries in Eastern Europe should Russia launch further aggression against Ukraine.
She told this to reporters at a press briefing on Monday, December 13, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
When asked if there was an active plan to deploy U.S. forces on NATO's eastern flank if Russia invaded Ukraine, Psaki said that since the war started in 2014, a number of NATO partner countries "were looking for reassurance, were looking to plus up the presence there, were looking for additional rotational deployments."
"And certainly, that is on the table should Russia decide to invade Ukraine," she added.
