Zelensky, Cassis discuss security situation and fight against COVID-19
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the security situation around Ukraine and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic with President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis.
“I congratulated Ignazio Cassis on taking office of President of Switzerland. We discussed security situation around Ukraine. We exchanged views on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. We agreed to continue cooperation in preparation for the 5th Ukraine Reform Conference in Lugano,” Zelensky posted on Twitter.
As reported, the 5th Ukraine Reform Conference will be held in the Swiss city of Lugano on July 4-5, 2022, with the participation of representatives of the Ukrainian authorities of all levels.
In December 2021, the Parliament of Switzerland elected incumbent Minister of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis as the President for 2022.
The President of Switzerland is elected according to the "first among equals" principle among the Government members. Each minister becomes president for one year at least once every seven years. The President of Switzerland is not the head of state as the functions of the head of state are performed collectively by all members of the Federal Council.
