White House ready for Moscow’s disinformation on Geneva talks

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is bracing for the Russian side to spread misinformation about the Geneva talks.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to a briefing by White House Spokesperson Jen Psaki.

"I will note a couple of things that — as you’re looking at this: We are preparing ourself for the possibility and likelihood — no one should be surprised, I should say, if Russia spreads disinformation about commitments that have not been made, or if it goes even further and instigates something as a pretext for further destabilizing activity.  And so, we would continue to urge everyone not to fall for any attempts to push disinformation out there," Psaki said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the American and Russian official delegations concluded a one-day meeting in Geneva on Monday, aimed at finding a diplomatic path to easing tensions in Europe. The U.S. delegation rejected any possibility of curtailing NATO's open-door policy for other nations, including Ukraine.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said that after meeting in Geneva with Russian officials, she could not say whether Moscow was ready to de-escalate the situation near Ukraine's borders.
