Ukraine expects Russia to implement Paris Summit decisions, participate in new meeting – Nykyforov
Ukraine is ready to seek ways of peaceful settlement in the east together with France and Germany in various formats and expects Russia to implement the Paris Summit decisions and organize a new meeting of the Normandy format leaders.
"Ukraine is interested in resolving the conflict in the east by peaceful means as soon as possible. We are ready to seek solutions in absolutely all formats – both new and revived old ones," Serhiy Nykyforov, spokesman for the President of Ukraine, said in a video commentary available to Ukrinform.
According to Nykyforov, President Zelensky recently assured advisers to the leaders of France and Germany that Ukraine was adhering to the 2019 Paris Summit decisions and was ready to organize a new meeting.
“They said that both France and Germany saw the need for such a meeting, so together we expect that Russia, first, will start implementing the decisions of the 2019 Paris Summit and, second, will join the preparations for a new meeting of leaders at the highest level,” he stressed.
As reported, political advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format members – France and Germany – arrived in Ukraine on January 10.
On January 4, foreign and security policy adviser to the German Chancellor Jens Plötner and diplomatic adviser to the President of France Emmanuel Bonn held a video conference with Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak. On January 6, representatives of Berlin and Paris met with Russian negotiator Dmitry Kozak in Moscow.
