Biden administration working to increase aid to Ukraine - Blinken

The U.S. administration continues to work closely with U.S. Congress and allies to increase assistance to Ukraine and help it defend itself against Russian aggression.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Washington on Monday, February 7, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We continue to work closely with Congress and with allies and partners to significantly increase assistance to Ukraine to help it prepare to defend itself," Blinken said.

In this regard, he noted that the United States provided Ukraine with $650 million in security assistance last year, more than in any previous year. Blinken said the U.S. administration had authorized allies to provide U.S. origin equipment. In addition, the U.S. deployed forces and put more on a heightened state of readiness to shore up NATO's eastern flank, he said.

"We're working with partners to support the Ukrainian economy," Blinken said.

According to him, all this is happening "through constant coordination, some 200 engagements to date by phone, screen, in-person."
