Zelensky discusses specific legal guarantees of defense with Scholz
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the need to include specific legal guarantees of defense of Ukraine in Europe's security architecture.
"The issue of security challenges and the peace process was the main topic of our talks. It is in Ukraine today that the future of European security architecture, of which our state is a part, is being shaped. We talked about key approaches to this very important process, about the need to include specific legal guarantees capable of defending Ukraine in this architecture," Zelensky said at a joint press conference with Scholz, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The President noted that Ukraine and Germany shared a common vision that the escalation on the Ukrainian-Russian border is an "unprecedented challenge" for Europe and the world.
"Therefore, the position of our partners, as well as concrete actions to support Ukraine, strengthen the stability and defense capabilities of our country is beneficial for the whole region, for the European Union as a whole," said the Head of State.
Ukraine is a reliable ally and a real outpost of democracy in the region, Zelensky added.
"It is impossible to create functional security architecture in Europe without Ukraine," the President stressed.
On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz makes a visit to Ukraine. On Tuesday, he will visit Moscow.
