Ukraine now at the center of disinformation war - Tkachenko
Ukraine is now at the center of the disinformation war as the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security at the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine exposed ten classic fakes produced by Russia.
The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko, said this at a briefing at Ukrinform on Monday, February 21.
"We are now at the center of a disinformation war, a hybrid war. This weekend alone, the Center exposed ten classic fakes. [...] In fact, they are working in line with 'temnyks' [secret instructions to media outlets on what issues they are to report and in what manner]. We received one such 'temnyk' according to which media outlets operating in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, using manipulations and provocations, are trying to disinform our society. It is worth mentioning the evacuation of Ukrainians to Russia where they stay in some tents. Some of them are trying to return home. Reports of thousands or tens of thousands [of refugees from Donbas] staying there are not entirely true. Nevertheless, we must respond to those reports and inform Ukrainians and the world about what is happening there," Tkachenko said.
The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, Ukrinform National News Agency, and the Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security earlier launched an operational press center.
Security officials, including those of the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other agencies, will provide daily updates on the situation in the Joint Forces Operation zone and around Ukraine's borders.
