Ukraine preparing its own package of sanctions against Russia - Shmyhal

Ukraine is preparing its own package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

"The government is preparing relevant proposals for the National Security and Defense Council, and based on the results of our meeting, the Verkhovna Rada will consider the relevant package tomorrow," Shmyhal said on the Svoboda Slova political talk show on ICTV on Tuesday evening.

Earlier, the head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, David Arakhamia, said that the Verkhovna Rada at its meeting on Wednesday, February 23, plans to consider an appeal to the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions on deputies of Russia’s State Duma.

As Ukrinform reported, on February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on recognizing the independence of the so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic” and “Donetsk People’s Republic”. Russia’s Federation Council unanimously ratified treaties of friendship and mutual assistance, including military assistance, with the pseudo-republics of "DPR" and "LPR".

On February 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia recognized "DPR" and "LPR" within the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
