Canada prepared to impose more sanctions on Russia - MFA
Canada is prepared to tighten sanctions against Russia if it continues invading Ukraine.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Melanie Joly said this at a press conference in Ottawa, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“Our response begins today and should Russia escalate, so will the cost imposed by Canada and its allies,” Joly warned.
She stressed that just as “Russia has prepared for this day, so have we.” “We are prepared to target even more of Russia’s financial sector and oligarchs and we are ready to make significant announcements related to Canadian exports to Russia,” Joly said.
As reported, Canada on Tuesday announced sanctions against Russia for recognizing the independence of the so-called “L/DPR”. Canadians are banned from engaging in purchases of Russian sovereign debt and conducting financial dealings with the “L/DPR”. Canada sanctioned all members of Russia’s State Duma, who voted in favor of recognizing “L/DPR” as independent.
