“Further sanctions on their way”: EU to assist in documenting Russian war crimes near Kyiv

EU High Representative Josep Borrell and European Council President Charles Michel have been shocked by the atrocities committed by Russian troops in Kyiv Region and promised to assist Ukraine in gathering of necessary evidence for pursuit in international courts.

The relevant statement was made by EU High Representative Josep Borrell on Twitter, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Shocked by news of atrocities committed by Russian forces. EU assists Ukraine in documenting war crimes. All cases must be pursued, namely by the International Court of Justice (ICJ),” Borrell wrote.

European Council President Charles Michel also noted he was “shocked by haunting images of atrocities committed by Russian army in Kyiv liberated region” and assured Kyiv authorities of Brussels’ assistance in gathering of necessary evidence to bring Russia to justice in international courts.

“Further EU sanctions and support are on their way,” Michel added.

Earlier, after the massacre of civilians by Russians in Bucha, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba demanded that the Group of Seven immediately impose new devastating sanctions against Russia.

A reminder that a mass grave was found in the town of Bucha, which had been recently liberated from Russian invaders, where almost 300 people were buried, with dozens of corpses lying on the streets, some of them with their hands tied.
