Work on sanctions: Shmyhal meets with Nancy Pelosi and congressmen

Ukraine and the United States continue to work together on sanctions against Russia to make them as effective as possible.

This was announced on Telegram by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal following his meeting in Washington with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress, Ukrinform reports.

"We continue to work together on sanctions against Russia to make them as effective as possible. For 56 days of a full-scale war, Ukraine has been repelling the aggressor. We feel significant support coming from the United States. I noted this at a meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress," Shmyhal wrote.

According to the head of government, the participants in the meeting discussed weapons, sanctions, and finances. "We continue to work together on Russia sanctions to make them as effective as possible. The sixth package is on its way,” he stressed.

The prime minister added that Ukraine also needs financial assistance to support internally displaced persons, as well as demine our territories.

Another important topic was support for people who are near or in the war zone. Shmyhal has called on partners to consolidate their efforts to help these people.

"I thanked Ms. Pelosi for her consistent support of Ukraine over these eight years of war, for understanding the problems and challenges facing our country," he added.

As reported, Shmyhal is on a working visit to Washington (USA) on April 21-22. The Prime Minister of Ukraine is taking part in a ministerial within the framework of The 2022 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Shmyhal is also holding meetings with representatives of U.S. Congress, heads of international financial and humanitarian organizations, and government officials.
