Zhovkva: Sixth round of sanctions against Russia won’t be last

The President's Office is convinced that the sixth round of the European Union sanctions against Russia must contain an oil embargo.

"Ukraine will not need the sixth package without an oil embargo, because this is one of the main sanctions that must be introduced today, and it really should deliver an immediate result," Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva said during the nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, there are some countries that do not support the abandonment of Russian oil, but talks and discussions are constantly held with them.

Zhovkva also noted that the sixth package of sanctions would definitely not be the last as there are other sanctions that Ukraine needs to weaken Russia.

As reported, the European Union intends to propose an exception for oil supplies from Russia and give Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic the opportunity to maintain imports of Russian oil until 2024. The rest of the EU is expected to abandon imports by the end of this year. However, Hungary is not satisfied with such a proposal and continues to block the round of sanctions.
