Massive sanctions strike on Russia to help avoid protracted war - Yermak
A massive sanctions strike on Russia, intensified by the maximum number of weapons provided to Ukraine, will allow avoiding a protracted war.
This was stated by the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, who addressed the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Irish Parliament, Ukrinform reports.
"The European Union is responding to Russia's aggression by increasing sanctions in portions and gradually increasing arms supplies to Ukraine. It’s too long and inefficient. We propose to change the approach. We should do what the Russians aren’t expecting. Not only will it help save thousands of lives, it will also help avoid a protracted war that Russia is already bracing for," Yermak said.
According to the head of the President’s Office, it is equally important that the continued sanctions pressure on Russia serves as one of the safeguards against further attempts at aggression towards Ukraine.
As reported, the European Union leaders had agreed on the sixth package of sanctions on the Russian Federation, which provides for a partial embargo on Russian oil exports and disconnection of Sberbank from SWIFT.
