Blinken: United States announces new security assistance package to Ukraine

The United States announced on Wednesday a new security assistance package to Ukraine, which includes additional modern weaponry, including more advanced rocket systems.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a corresponding statement during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg who is on a visit to Washington, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Just this morning, President Biden announced a significant new security assistance package to arm Ukraine with additional capabilities and advanced weaponry – precisely what they need to defend themselves against the armed Russian aggression,” he said, noting that the package includes “more advanced rocket systems so that they can hit key targets on the battlefield in Ukraine from longer distances.”

According to him, the United States moves quickly so that Ukraine has the opportunity to repel Russia's aggression and be in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table.

All US allies within NATO are committed to ensuring that Ukraine can protect itself, the Secretary of State stressed.

He noted that the Russian government and its allies faced serious consequences due to unprecedented sanctions, export controls, and diplomatic pressure.

Blinken stressed that the war against Ukraine united NATO and strengthened the protection of Allies themselves. "They see what is happening in Ukraine as a direct assault on the foundation of their own peace and security. That is why we will continue to stand with the democratic, independent, sovereign Ukraine until this terrible war is over," he said.
