Ukraine needs weapons because words won’t stop Putin - Baerboсk
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has reaffirmed Germany’s continued support for Ukraine, including with weapons because "Putin can’t be stopped by words."
Baerbock wrote about this in an oped by Bild, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"In the 100 days of war, Putin changed his strategy. But hell continues. He underestimated the courage of Ukrainians. So now he is firing from a safe distance. Village after village, city after city. First comes a rain of fire from bombs and artillery and then the tanks come rolling in along the well-shaved land. Putin is betting on stubbornness and our exhaustion. And the fate of Bucha awaits every village. And that is why we must continue to support Ukraine right now. Including with weapons because Putin can’t be stopped by words," Baerbock said.
She stressed that Germany is obliged to act as the largest nation in the European Union, and Germany's partners in the Baltics and Eastern Europe can remain confident that they can count on Germany. The Minister also assured that Berlin, together with its partners in the EU and NATO, is "reorganizing our defense."
"One thing is clear: peace does not come for free. But every cent we spend is a contribution to security and freedom, to the freedom of Europe. While Ukraine is not safe, Europe is not safe either. If Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, then there will always be a threat of new aggression. We will continue to support Ukraine. Until there are no new ‘Buchas.’ So that what we take for granted becomes a norm again for the people of Ukraine: life in freedom," Baerbock wrote.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during his address to the Bundestag that Germany would supply Ukraine with an IRIS-T air defense system, a modern radar for determining the coordinates of the target, and consider supplying multiple rocket launchers in cooperation with the United States.
