Ukraine completes ratification of Istanbul Convention

Ukraine officially completed the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, handing over the relevant documents to Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

“I warmly welcome Ukraine’s deposit today of the instrument of ratification of the Istanbul Convention,” Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, posted on Twitter.

As noted, Ukraine became the 36th state party to this landmark treaty.

According to information on the website of the Council of Europe, the Convention will enter into force in Ukraine on November 1, 2022.

As reported, on June 20, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed it on June 21.
