New top prosecutor to be appointed within 10 days, says ruling faction head
The first and most important task of the new prosecutor general should be to appoint the chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
The head of the ruling Servant of the People faction in Ukraine’s Parliament, Davyd Arakhamia, wrote about this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"In the next 10 days, we are awaiting the appointment of a new prosecutor general, whose first and most important task should be to appoint the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, as required by President of Ukraine. And in order for there to be no delays with this issue, I would like to address the Commission selecting the SAPO head with a request to complete all the necessary procedures within 10 days," Arakhamia wrote.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on July 17, President Volodymyr Zelensky removed Iryna Venediktova from the post of Prosecutor General.
On the morning of July 19, the President submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a motion for Venediktova’s dismissal. On the same day, the parliament supported the motion.
