VR prepares statement to international community regarding Russia’s war crime in Olenivka

The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is preparing a statement to the international community regarding a war crime committed by the Russian army in Donetsk Region’s Olenivka.

The relevant statement was made by Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is preparing a statement to the international community regarding another war crime committed by the Russian army in the temporarily occupied village of Olenivka,” Stefanchuk wrote.

According to Stefanchuk, Russia has once again proved it is a terrorist state. In his opinion, the Geneva Conventions and international law are nothing to the Russian Federation.

“Russia is a barbaric country. The civilized world must give an assessment of all the torture and abuse used against Ukrainian prisoners of war. Mere condemnation is not enough. Russia must be an isolated country and have the status, according to which it acts – the status of a terrorist state,” Stefanchuk stressed.

At the same time, Stefanchuk noted it is important to Ukraine to conduct an impartial an unbiased investigation into that crime.

“Each atrocity, each murder will have an answer – a court verdict,” Stefanchuk added.

A reminder that, on the night of July 29, 2022, a powerful explosion took place within the former Correctional Facility No. 210 in Donetsk Region’s Olenivka, namely in a building, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept. According to the Russian side, about 50 Ukrainian defenders were killed and over 70 seriously injured. The Kremlin propagandists attempted to accuse the Ukrainian side of allegedly opening fire on their own POWs with the HIMARS.
