Canada slaps sanctions on Russian military officials, defense entities

Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is imposing further sanctions in relation to Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine.

That’s according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“We will not allow Vladimir Putin and his enablers to act with impunity. The Russian war machine’s egregious actions will not be forgotten, and Canada will continue to work with its partners in the international community to hold it to account. Canada stands with Ukraine,” said Joly.

Canada is imposing new measures on 43 military officials and 17 entities that are “complicit in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s senseless bloodshed, including the horrific events in Bucha.”

“Canada strongly condemns the murder of civilians in Ukraine and will use every tool at its disposal to ensure that violations of international law across Ukraine, including those in Bucha, are fully investigated,” the ministry said in a statement.

Canadian diplomacy added that the country also continues to work with its international partners to coordinate actions and explore options for new measures in response to the Russian regime’s unjustifiable acts.

In his turn, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, went on social media to recall that Canada is holding consultations on the further expansion of sanctions against Russia.

He thanked the partner country for its concern.

As reported, since Russia's illegal occupation of Crimea, Canada has imposed sanctions against more than 1,600 individuals and legal entities that contributed to the violation of Ukraine's sovereignty. More than 1,150 of them were sanctioned after February 24.
