PM Shmyhal: Banning Russians from entering EU is about security and justice
Russians who support the war against Ukraine and killing of civilians should not visit EU countries that value life, peace and freedom.
“Banning russians from entering the EU is about security & justice. People who support the war & killing civilians should not visit countries with such values as life, peace & freedom,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal posted on Twitter.
Shmyhal also expressed his gratitude to the partners who supported this initiative, in particular the Czech Republic, for promoting it in the institutions of the European Union.
As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on EU countries to suspend the issuance of visas to Russian citizens. He stated that the EU should not turn into a "supermarket" available to anyone who can afford to visit it.
"There should be guarantees that Russian murderers or accomplices of terror will not use Schengen visas," said the President.
Jan Lipavský, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic that currently presides over the Council of EU, wants to discuss a general suspension of visas for Russian citizens at the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague at the end of the month.
