Scholz, Biden, Macron, Johnson discuss situation in Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the international situation, in particular, the events in Ukraine, with the leaders of the USA, France, and the UK.
As German Federal Government Spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit informs, Chancellor Scholz discussed the international situation with U.S. President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on August 21.
"The four heads of state and government agreed that support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression will continue in the long term. They also discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and called for military restraint in the area and for the earliest possible visit of IAEA representatives to the site," Hebestreit said.
The situation in the Middle East was also discussed, in particular the negotiations on the nuclear agreement with Iran and its behavior in the region.
As reported, the EU and 42 countries called on Russia to immediately withdraw its troops from the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the entire territory of Ukraine. For his part, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Zaporizhzhia NPP and arrival of IAEA mission at the plant.
