Peace in Ukraine can’t be achieved by appeasing Russia - U.S. Senator

Peace in Ukraine is achievable, but not with the help of a doctrine of appeasing Russia.

That’s according to U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who spoke with Guildhall, according to Ukrinform.

“As partners of Ukraine and supporters of freedom, I believe the United States must stand united with our allies against Russia's illegal war, and provide support to ensure freedom and sovereignty for the people of Ukraine,” the senator said in a comment.

She noted that she is working with her colleagues in the House and Senate to maximize their contributions in support of the Ukrainian resistance while applying a maximum pressure campaign on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle.

“Peace can be achieved, but it will not result from a doctrine of appeasement (of the Russian Federation - ed.),” the lawmaker stressed.

“My legislation to authorize the Department of Defense to transfer existing stores of articles was signed into law, providing lethal aid complementary to the platforms used by the Ukrainian army, Additionally, I led a letter encouraging the President to complete a transfer of MiG-29 fighters from Poland to resupply the Ukrainian Air Force, whose success in the skies is crucial to their defense,” the legislator concluded.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Dan Rice, a U.S. army veteran now serving as a special advisor to the Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine needs U.S.-made F-15 and F-16 fighter jets in the ongoing war against Russia, but even before a decision is made on their supply, the U.S. should train Ukrainian pilots to fly them.
