Shmyhal to Metsola: Ukraine counts on European Parliament's support in a number of issues
Ukraine counts on the support of the European Parliament in a number of issues, including in matters relating to Ukraine's membership in the EU.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal wrote on Telegram that had talked about this at a meeting in Brussels with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and heads of political groups, Ukrinform reports.
"The priorities remain military aid, increased sanctions pressure, financial and humanitarian support for Ukraine. After Ukraine received its candidate status, our key priority is the transition to the membership negotiation process. We count on the support of the European Parliament in this matter," Shmyhal wrote.
He also thanked international friends for their determination and leadership in helping Ukraine. He recalled that the European Parliament's first plenary session in the new season would be held next week.
"I am confident that the European Parliament and other institutions will once again emphasize their unwavering support for Ukraine and will make [Ukraine's] victory in this war shamefully unleashed by Russia an unconditional priority," Shmyhal added.
He noted that he is now convinced that Ukraine and Ukrainians remain in the focus of attention of the European Parliament.
Earlier reports said that Shmyhal and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell would chair a meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council in Brussels on September 5.
