Ukraine requests urgent meeting of UN Security Council over sham referendums
Russia must be held accountable for holding sham referendums in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and attempts to change Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders in violation of the UN Charter.
Oleg Nikolenko, a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said this in a commentary to Ukrinform.
"Ukraine has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on Russia’s sham referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Russia must be held accountable for its further attempts to change Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders in a violation of the UN Charter,” Nikolenko said.
As reported by Ukrinform, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia, appealed to Nicolas de Rivière, Ambassador of France, which holds the presidency of the Security Council in September, with a request to discuss the holding of pseudo-referendums in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine. Such a discussion is expected to take place on Tuesday, September 27.
