If Russia wants talks, they have to leave our territory – President of Ukraine

In order to resume talks, Russia must leave Ukraine’s territory within the borders of 1991.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Canada’s CTV and CBC, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“In order to talk, it is necessary to rewind to the moment, when our states did talk – and it was prior to the war, before 2014. From this point, we can try to resolve the issue diplomatically,” Zelensky said.

At the same time, Zelensky expressed confidence that one day Russia would have a leadership that Ukraine would be able to communicate with, provided that there would be no war and ultimatums from Russia.

“Will there be a return to relations as before this war? I am sure that not. They took many people and lives away. Society will not forgive them for this. But, political relations after bringing back territories – depending on what price we bring them back at – will be. And we should not dictate to society how to treat the state that wanted to wipe you off the face of the earth yesterday,” Zelensky stressed.

A reminder that French President Emmanuel Macron stated earlier that only Ukraine should determine whether the time had come to return to the negotiating table with Russia.
