Two factions of Bundestag ready to support upping defense aid to Ukraine to over EUR 2B - Shmyhal

Two factions of the German Parliament are ready to support an increase in defense aid funding for Ukraine next year to more than 2 billion euros.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal wrote about this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"The German parliament is united in its support for Ukraine. Today, they held meetings with the Vice-President of the Bundestag with the Union90/Greens faction Katrin Goering-Eckardt and co-chair of the Union90/Greens party Ricarda Lang, as well as with the head of the opposition CDU, chair of the CDU/CSU faction in Bundestag Friedrich Merz," Shmyhal noted.

The Prime Minister is convinced that the Bundestag understands Ukraine's needs to counter the Russian enemy and is ready to continue to support Ukraine with weapons, funds, as well as technical and humanitarian assistance.

"In particular, both factions are ready to support an increase in defense aid funding for Ukraine next year to more than 2 billion euros. We are grateful to the German parliamentarians for their consolidation and clear position on supporting Ukraine," said Shmyhal.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Shmyhal discussed with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen the creation of a financial coordination platform and support for Ukraine.
