U.S., Italy leaders agree to continue providing aid to Ukraine
U.S. President Joe Biden has held his first phone call with Italy's new Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
The White House said this in a press release on the readout of the two leaders' call, Ukrinform reports.
"President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke today with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy to offer his congratulations on her appointment. […] They discussed their commitment to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, holding Russia accountable for its aggression, addressing the challenges posed by China, and ensuring sustainable and affordable energy resources," the White House said.
It added that the parties had underscored the strong relationship between the United States and Italy, and expressed their readiness to work together within the transatlantic alliance to address common challenges.
Meloni during her first speech in the Italian parliament on Tuesday said that Italy would not succumb to Putin's energy blackmail and would continue to support Ukraine.
