FIFA refuses to show Zelensky's address with proposal of Global Peace Formula Summit
FIFA refused to show a video address by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with a suggestion for Peace Formula – a set of efforts that can restore peace across the globe – ahead of the World Cup final on Sunday.
"Ukraine suggests convening the Global Peace Formula Summit to implement them [a set of efforts that can restore peace across the globe]. Not once, not after our Victory, but already this winter. President Zelensky should have sent his message to the world ahead of the football championship final in Qatar. Qatar supported this idea, but FIFA blocked the address, although it contains nothing that would violate the traditions of sports competitions and generally accepted standards of international communication," Davyd Arakhamiya, Head of the Servant of the People party faction in the Verkhovna Rada, posted on Telegram.
He noted that every country has the opportunity to prove its strength and wealth in a civilized way. Football is one of them.
"Show your power on a [football] field, not on a battlefield. We hope FIFA understands its mission, as well as the mission of football and sports. There is still time to correct its mistake and let show the address with a call for peace. Especially since it will be made anyway. Either in the main arena of the football championship or in the smartphones of millions of people around the world," Arakhamiya wrote.
As reported, the World Cup final will be held in Qatar on Sunday, December 18.
