Sweden assures Ukraine to be key priority of EU presidency

Ukraine is a key priority of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union.

This was announced on Twitter by the head of the Swedish government following a video conference meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Ukraine is the key priority for the Swedish EU Presidency. Continued discussion today with Volodymyr Zelensky on our steadfast support to Ukraine and military assistance,” the tweet reads.

As reported by Ukrinform, on January 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a video conference meeting with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson. Following the meeting, the Ukrainian leader said that the authorities and Ukrainians are counting on the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union under Sweden's presidency of the EU Council. The head of state also told the Prime Minister of Sweden about the situation at the front and the risks of its escalation, as well as about the key needs of Ukraine to strengthen its Defense Forces.

Sweden's EU presidency kicked off on January 1.
