Sacrifice of Heavenly Hundred Heroes was not in vain - Maasikas
Ukraine is firmly on the EU membership path and fights fiercely against Russia's aggression, so the sacrifice of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes was not in vain.
Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas said this on his Twitter account on the occasion of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day, Ukrinform reports.
"Today, we commemorate the Heavenly Hundred, the fallen heroes of Maidan. They rose to defend Ukraine's right to determine its own fate as a European state. The sacrifice was not in vain. Ukraine is firmly on the EU membership path, and fights fiercely against Russia's aggression," the diplomat said.
On Monday, February 20, Ukraine marks the Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day for the ninth time. It is celebrated every year on February 20 in accordance with a presidential decree of February 11, 2015 "On commemorating the feat of participants in the Revolution of Dignity and perpetuating the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred."
It was during these days during the Revolution of Dignity that a confrontation between the Ukrainian people and the then regime reached its peak. From February 18 to February 20, the largest number of people died on the Maidan square in Kyiv - 78 people. More than 20 protesters died of injuries after February 20.
