Zelensky congratulates Assoumani on taking over African Union chairmanship

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has congratulated Azali Assoumani, president of the Union of Comoros, on taking over the rotating African Union chairmanship and said he looks forward to close cooperation, including in strengthening food security.

The head of state said this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"Congratulations to President of the Union of the Comoros Azali Assoumani on assuming Presidency of the African Union. I look forward to close cooperation for stability and peace. We will contribute to this by strengthening food security on the African continent," Zelensky emphasized.

The African Union is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 55 African countries. The organization was founded on July 9, 2002 as a successor to the merged African Economic Community and Organization of African Unity.
