Talks on Ukraine's membership in EU should begin this year - Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recalled that Ukraine's EU membership application was signed a year ago and called for the beginning of the negotiation process.
He said this on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.
"Ukraine has always been Europe, Ukraine will always be Europe. We've already guaranteed it. A year ago, on the 5th day of the full-scale war, Ukraine applied to join the European Union and secured the candidate status. This year is the time to decide on the launch of membership negotiations," Zelensky said.
He said he was sure that Ukraine has brought the EU together like never before, defending European values for generations to come.
"It's Ukraine where Europe becomes whole, free, and at peace. Together in struggle, together in victory. Long live Europe! Long live freedom!" Zelensky wrote.
On February 28, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed Ukraine's application for membership in the European Union.
On June 23, the heads of state and government of the European Union adopted a decision to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership.
