Ambassador of Ukraine to Türkiye comments on Putin's possible visit to Erdoğan

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Türkiye Vasyl Bodnar said that the embassy would soon make public its position on the possible visit of Vladimir Putin and signaled to the Turkish side about Ukraine's sensitivity towards communication with Russia.

"Now we are working on this issue. Official authorities or other agencies do not confirm [information on the visit] so far, so it is still an assumption or expectation. We also saw Peskov's previous statement that such a visit was not being prepared, so we are still working on this issue and will make it [position] public soon," Bodnar said during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

The diplomat noted that Ukraine's position is that Vladimir Putin is a war criminal who must rather go to The Hague, not other capitals or countries.

The Ambassador also noted that respect for international law and compliance with general norms and communication with countries such as Russia is quite sensitive for Ukraine.

"Behind closed doors in the process of communication with our Turkish partners, we make these signals, and now we are working with the Turkish side to reach an appropriate solution, and we will see how it will develop," Bodnar said.

As reported, on March 30, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin could make an official visit to his country as early as next month.
