Russia's UN Security Council presidency: FM Kuleba shares his expectations

The most effective option for the UN Security Council members to react to Russia's presidency is to leave it alone. But it is unlikely, so Russia should be cornered within the framework of existing procedures and rules, and the truth about the war and the actions of the aggressor state should be spread.

“The UN Security Council is a UN body with its own dynamics and rules, a balance of relations. Of course, I would like all the other members to leave the room and let Russia preside over an empty room, but I doubt that will happen. I expect the current members of the UN Security Council, permanent and non-permanent, to spread the truth about this war and the actions of Russia, to corner it as much as possible within the framework of existing procedures and rules during its presidency, not to allow it to violate the rules of the UN Security Council,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said during an online discussion dedicated to the expulsion of Russia from the UN Security Council, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the minister, even the countries, which previously believed that Russia's war against Ukraine did not concern them, gradually changed their opinion, in particular, feeling the food crisis caused by Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

"Yes, this war is physically happening in Europe, but its consequences are felt all over the world. I heard from many, ‘This is not our war’ at the beginning of the large-scale invasion, but the number of those voices decreased significantly after the food crisis caused by the Russian blockade of Ukrainian ports. Because people all over the world – in Asia, Africa, Latin America – felt the impact of Russian aggression against Ukraine due to food security, energy crisis, food shortage, food prices," said the minister.

According to him, Ukraine supports dialogue with such countries to understand their arguments and find ways to solve problems.
