Ukraine, U.S. representatives hold consultations on issues related to Africa
Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh held online consultations with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee.
This is said in a statement published on the Ukrainian Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ website.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed the issue of deepening cooperation with African partners in bilateral and multilateral formats.
“The parties exchanged views on joint issues between Ukraine and the USA to further develop cooperation between the two states in Africa, in particular in the context of countering Russian aggression. The representatives of the foreign ministries discussed the influence of non-regional actors on the political positions of African states on the issues of particular importance to the Ukrainian side,” the report says.
Subkh briefed the American partners on measures taken to strengthen Ukrainian diplomacy on the African track, achievements, and further plans for promoting Ukraine’s national interests.
Molly Phee noted the openness of the United States to exchanging experiences with Ukraine to overcome the challenges that arise in relations with the African states, and also emphasized the readiness to further expand interstate dialogue, including on issues of global food security.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to organize a second African tour for Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba in the summer and to hold a Ukraine-Africa summit.
