Chinese, Hungarian foreign ministers exchange views on Ukraine

Foreign Ministers Qin Gang of China and Peter Szijjarto of Hungary had an "in-depth exchange of views" on Ukraine.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said this in a statement, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

Qin said that China and Hungary are "good friends and good partners" and that the relationship between the two countries "has entered the best period in history."

"China is willing to continue to plan bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, maintain high-level exchanges with Hungary, deepen strategic mutual trust [...] and jointly respond to various risks and challenges," the top Chinese diplomat said.

He also expressed hope that the EU would establish "an objective and correct understanding of China" and continue to pursue a positive and pragmatic policy towards China.

Szijjarto, in turn, called China "a strategic cooperative partner and an important development opportunity." According to him, Hungary welcomes Chinese investment, opposes "decoupling and disconnection," and firmly supports the development of China-Central and Eastern European cooperation and EU-China relations.

Szijarto is on a visit to China where he plans to discuss a plan for a peaceful settlement to the situation in Ukraine.
