Spain's PM arrives in Ukraine

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez arrived in Ukraine on the first day of his country's presidency of the EU.

He announced this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

Sanchez wrote on Saturday that he had already arrived in Kyiv and published a video from the train station.

"I wanted the first act of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU to be in Ukraine together with President Volodymyr Zelensky. I will express all European solidarity to the Ukrainian government and parliament. We will maintain our support for the Ukrainian people until peace returns to Europe," Sanchez said.

On July 1, Spain assumed its six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.
