Ukraine’s Embassy in U.S. actively working to ensure lend-lease gets extended - Markarova

Ukrainian diplomats are now very actively working on making sure that U.S. legislators vote to extend the lend-lease initiative.

That’s according to the Ukrainian Ambassador to the USA, Oksana Markarova, who spoke in an interview with radio Liberty, Ukrinform reports.

“In late September expires the Lend-Lease act, on which we are currently working very actively (it has already passed the House quickly, and now we are working with the Senate), to extend the validity of this legislation," she said.

Although Markarova expressed her hope that the diplomats will be able to convince her colleagues to allocate grant funds to Ukraine in the additional budget, she noted that if there are any delays or certain difficulties to this end, it is critical that the option of lending or leasing weapons remains available.

"That's why there is such complex work being done now in all directions," the Ukrainian ambassador emphasized.

As reported earlier, on May 9, 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden approved Act S. 3522, the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act 2022, which allows for the activation of the program of streamlined assistance to Ukraine from the United States.
