Ukraine sentences another 18 members of Russian State Duma in absentia
The Security Service of Ukraine collected indisputable evidence of the guilt of another 91 members of the State Duma of the Russian Federation who contributed to the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine. Of them, 18 were sentenced to 15 years in prison, and the indictments against 73 Russian MPs were sent to court.
“It was established that on February 15, 2022, the officials supported the resolution to ask the President of the Russian Federation to recognize the so-called ‘independence’ of the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) posted on Telegram.
And already on February 22, they voted for the ratification of the so-called "agreement on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance" between the Kremlin and the terrorist organizations "LPR/DPR".
Moscow used this decision as a formal basis for launching a full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine.
Based on these facts, the SBU investigators conducted an investigation under Part 3 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine).
Since 18 convicted Russian MPs currently stay in the territory of Russia, their term of serving the punishment will start from the day of their actual detention.
As reported, the court sentenced five members of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, who encroached on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
