Ukraine condemns coup d'état in Niger - MFA
Ukraine strongly condemns the coup d'état in the Republic of Niger and is closely monitoring further developments.
The relevant statement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
In the statement, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine also emphasizes the need to comply with Niger's national legislation and international law. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically rejects any attempts to violently and illegitimately change the constitutional order.
"Political and institutional stability in Niger is a key in the context of efforts to address security challenges in the Central African and Sahel region," the statement said.
As previously reported, yesterday the military blocked Niger's President Mohamed Bazoum in his presidential palace in the country's capital, as well as the executive authorities of Niger. The previous coup attempt in Niger took place in March 2021.
The unrest in Niger and other countries in the region, including the coups d'état that previously took place in Burkina Faso and Mali, may be related to the inability of the authorities to counter Islamist attacks that undermine stability and security throughout the Sahel.
