Zelensky tells how Latin American countries can help Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression

In the war with Russia, Latin American countries can help Ukraine in various ways: humanitarian aid, demining, provision of equipment for water supply, energy sector, and informational support.

"First of all, we ask other countries to provide weapons. But not all of them can do this due to their domestic legislation or lack of weapons. However, humanitarian aid, aid in demining, drinking water supply systems, energy assistance, political and informational support – this is something with which other countries, including Latin American countries, can help," President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Latin American media, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, people of different countries should first understand simple things about the war in Ukraine, and this does not require a deep analysis, but simply an understanding of the terrible things that Russia is doing in our territory.

As an example, he mentioned the scale of mine contamination of the Ukrainian territory which is nearly equal to the area of Uruguay.

"The area of 200,000 sq km is mined in Ukraine. For example, the area of Uruguay is about 200,000 sq km as well. Therefore, the people of Uruguay should understand that it is as if their entire country is mined. What is this? War? No, this is not war, this is terrorism: these are people whose limbs are torn off, these are farmers who cultivate their mined land. That is, the first thing to understand is the situation in Ukraine and to imagine the extent of the consequences of Russian aggression," Zelensky said.

The second example he mentioned is the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP. "There is no drinking water in five regions. This is a social explosion. And now imagine again that the territory of a country like Uruguay is left without drinking water," the President added.

According to him, these two examples vividly show what countries like Uruguay can experience due to war and terrorism. "It's like two of your countries: one is without water, and the other is mined. These are the consequences of the Russian war. That's why it's not a conflict and not even just a war. It's a terrible terror. They clearly understand that it will take decades to demine such an area," the Head of State emphasized.

Therefore, the President stressed, it is important that citizens of different countries understand why Ukraine should be supported.

As reported, the total area of mined territories in Ukraine is twice as large as the area of Austria, and four times larger than the area of Switzerland.

As a result of hostilities, Ukraine is currently the most heavily mined country in the world. Explosive objects contaminated an area of the country roughly the size of Florida or Uruguay. Demining will take decades and billions of dollars.
