Ukraine has to constantly prove its value to partners – British envoy

Ukraine has to constantly prove that it is a valuable partner to a wide range of countries providing military and financial support.

The relevant statement was made by United Kingdom Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons in an interview with BBC, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Simmons, Ukrainians should not perceive the West as a single entity. It is more effective to speak of the groups of countries, such as G7, NATO, etc.

Simmons mentioned that Ukraine, again and again, has to prove that it is a valuable partner to a wide range of countries providing support: military, financial, etc. These countries are joining the efforts and providing such aid for the first time in history, and it is difficult for Ukrainians to understand why their country has to show the world that this is exactly what needs to be done.

Simmons added that she can understand Ukrainians emotionally, but it is necessary to look at the situation from the perspective of foreign governments providing money or military equipment to Ukraine, as they need to report to their citizens.

There is no place for emotional conversations, Simmons noted. It should be a strategic, clear and concrete conversation, and it should be not only about the struggle but also about Ukraine’s commitment to institutions, justice and transparency.
