Shmyhal, Scholz discuss use of frozen Russian assets in Berlin
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz have held a meeting in Berlin and discussed further comprehensive support for Ukraine, namely regarding the use of frozen Russian assets.
The relevant statement was made by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Together with the governmental team, we are working in Berlin. Held a meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz. Thanked for holding the 6th German-Ukrainian Business Forum. Such events promote new agreements, new investment and new projects in Ukraine,” Shmyhal wrote.
In the course of the meeting, the parties focused on comprehensive support for Ukraine.
“Germany plays an important role in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as well as cooperation with the European Commission. We are grateful for this and look forward to continued unwavering support,” Shmyhal noted.
Additionally, Shmyhal and Scholz touched upon the use of frozen Russian assets, namely through the international compensation mechanism.
“Together we must find ways to make Russia pay for the crimes and destruction committed in Ukraine,” Shmyhal stressed.
A reminder that the 6th German-Ukrainian Business Forum opened in Berlin on October 24, 2023. The event is held under the slogan ‘Integrate Ukraine: Recovery, Smart Growth and Security’.
