Meloni, Scholz discuss support for Ukraine ahead of EU summit
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have discussed military and financial support for Ukraine in a phone call ahead the EU summit that is scheduled for February 1.
That’s according to ANSA, Ukrinform reports.
“The two heads of government discussed the main international and European issues ahead of the extraordinary European Council on 1 February, focusing in particular on military and financial support for Ukraine," the press service of the Italian government reported.
It is noted that Meloni also presented the priorities of the Italian G7 Presidency.
As reported by Ukrinform, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany planned to double its spending on military aid to Ukraine and called on other EU countries to increase their contributions.
The European Union at its summit on February 1 is expected to approve amendments to the 2024-2027 multiannual budget, which include a EUR 50 billion Ukraine Facility.
