Von der Leyen at peace summit: Freezing conflict in Ukraine will only lead to new war

Any freezing of the conflict in Ukraine will not lead to peace, but will become a prerequisite for a new war of aggression. That is why Ukraine needs a comprehensive and lasting peace in compliance with the principles of the UN Charter, which are important for all countries of the world.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this in her speech at the Peace Summit, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

She said that freezing the conflict today, when foreign troops are occupying Ukrainian land, is not the answer. In fact, this is a recipe for further war of aggression, she said.

Instead, this should be a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine. This should be a peace that will restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the inviolability of all borders, the sovereignty of all peoples - this is what is at stake, von der Leyen said.
